Chakra 6 - Agnya Chakra

agnya-chakra-sahaja-yoga.jpg

INTRODUCTION

The Agnya Chakra also known as the third eye chakra, is situated in the center of the forehead area, and represents the sixth stage of man's evolution.  We can identify its position as the middle of the forehead.  It is the gateway to the Sahasrara Chakra, and so will not allow the Kundalini to rise above if there are any impurities in the mind.

When the Kundalini passes through this Chakra, our thought waves elongate so that the space between the two thoughts grows wider.  This space is silence, and as the petals of the Chakra open up, silence blossoms in the center and spreads outwards, pushing our thoughts to the periphery of our awareness represents that time in the evolution of humanity when the need for harmony and collective living become important.

It represents everything to do with the cohesive nature of the human race, and the ability of the human being to rise above petty differences and strive to experience the unity of the Spirit.

This is where the state of "thoughtless awareness" happens.  In this state we actually feel the beautiful silence, the stillness, which is at the heart of creation.

Remember - Before we start every session:

  • We should remove our shoes and bow to Mother Earth in obeisance and gratitude to Her.

  • We do so by placing our forehead and hands on the ground – palms facing upwards toward the sky. Our hands should be on either side of our head.

Left_agnya.jpg

This two petaled center is called the Agnya and is placed where the two optic nerves cross each other in the brain (Optic chiasma).  Here the right and left channels cross over to create the ego (left side of the head) and the superego (right side of head).  This center caters to Pituitary and Pineal glands in the body which manifests the two institution of ego and superego within us.  The Agnya Chakra is the "narrow gate" through which the Kundalini passes.  It can be blocked if the Ego and Superego swell up like balloons.  They form the ends of the two side channels (nadis).

Since this center governs our eyes, too much visual engagements like cinema, computers, television, over reading etc., weakens this center.  Indulging in mental calisthenics and intellectual feats leads to blocking of this center and one develops the notion of I-ness and ego.

When Kundalini pierces this center, the person immediately becomes thoughtless and forgiving, which is the essence of this center, that is it allows us to forgive others.

QUALITY

The primary quality of the Agnya Chakra is forgiveness. Forgiveness (and forbearance) and humour are perhaps the most effective methods.  The Ego is a creature of action.  It thrives on doing - on punishing for a wrong, on effecting a change, on obtaining a desire.  By practicing forbearance, we slow down the fuel of the Ego, we force the Ego to wait.  By so doing our Spirit then has  the time to shine through in our action, and the true course becomes manifest.  When we forgive, we take away the action from ourselves, for our ego.  Not forgiving" is an action.

Humour also provides a strong dose of medicine for an ego in full flight.  It is easy to deflate the balloon of ego and pull it back in to proportion by pricking it with a pin of humour.  By watching the ego as a witness, we can begin to see its subtle tricks and manipulations, and then we see the joke of it all. We can never fight the ego, we can only bring it down with our laughter, and then our Heart will break through its stronghold.

The Human Mind

The human mind is divided into an Ego and Super Ego. These are located at the uppermost endpoints of the channels of Ida Nadi (the Moon Line of Left Channel) and Pingala Nadi (the Sun Line or Right Channel).  These two channels cross over at the Agnya Chakra.

Everything which relates to the past (such as memories, conditionings and emotions) accumulates as a residue in the Super Ego on the right - having crossed over from the Left Channel - side of the brain.  Everything which relates to the future (such as thinking, planning, action, etc.) likewise accumulates as a residue, but in the Ego on the left side of the brain.  We can liken these residues to hot exhaust gasses which come from too much activity in the particular channel.  So, for instance, as we overexert ourselves in planning for the future (next years holidays, next years birthdays, plans for our funeral arrangements!) we generate an excess of energy in the Right Channel.

This is actually a process of exhausting the channel as it takes away the natural balance of the channels by emphasizing one at the expense of the other.  This excess energy rises like a deadening  smog obstructing our Spiritual growth.

Before our Realisation each of us are in varying states of imbalance in our channels, and the result is a varied smog consisting of Ego and Super Ego exhaust, which drift together to obstruct our Spiritual ascent up through the Central (Sushumna) Channel.  The Kundalini simply cannot penetrate the combined smog to complete our Yoga at the Sahastrara Chakra.

It is because of this state of affairs that the fontanel area (the soft area on our skull that we are born with) calcifies and hardens at a fairly early age, and we begin to develop our separate identities and our concept of 'I'.  As the Heart then starts to become enveloped by the Ego, we lose sight of the Spirit and identify only with the one we call 'I'.

It is not that we should want to destroy our Ego, it has a very useful place in our being.  Without it we would not be able to act at all.  But we need to bring it into balance with the Super Ego in order to create a space through which the Kundalini can ascend to pass into the Sahastrara.  Any controlling Ego is a hard task to master.

RIGHT AGNYA

EGO - (Left Temple)

  • All our thoughts of the future accumulate here:  planning, projects, desires for power and ambitions

  • Our sense of individuality makes us become identified with the "I" separated from the Spirit.

  • Shri Mataji advises us not to fight our Ego but to deflate it with humour

  • It exists in the area called the Supraconscious, the area used by clairvoyants, fortune-tellers etc.

LEFT AGNYA

SUPEREGO - (Right Temple)

  • Memories and conditioning from the past accumulate here.

  • It exists in the area called the Subconscious, where our past experiences and knowledge are stored.

  • The individual Subconscious borders on that of the collective

  • Here can be found spirits of the dead who still gravitate to earth.  Spiritualists and mediums work in this area.

BACK AGNYA

The left channel (Ida Nadi) rises to the front Agnya, crosses the right channel, passes over the right temple to end in the center of the back of the head.  Memories and conditionings of the past accumulate here.

Clearing the Left Agnya (Right temple)

Using the Elements:

  • Look at the Agnya spot of the photograph of Shree Mataji through a candle flame.

  • Use the candle treatment on the back of the head (Back Agnya treatment)

  • Let the Sunlight fall on the back of the head.

Affirmation:

"Mother, please forgive me for anything i may have done against my Spirit"

"Mother, please let me have pure faith and may I go beyond all fears"

General Advice:

  • Left hand towards the photo, right hand on the back of the head.

  • Tapping the back of the head with right palm, left hand towards the photo.

  • Reduce the pressure on the Super-Ego by stroking the right temple across the back of the head downwards to the Swadisthan Chakra.

  • Do not live in the past.  Reflecting on past events and relationships and other nostalgic attitudes feeds the Super-Ego, so try to stop indulging in these habits and conditionings.

  • Sometimes the Super-Ego becomes so over bloated that it squeezes the Ego and pressure down the Vishuddhi Chakra at the base of the skull and neck.  This is sometimes incorrectly diagnosed as a Vishuddhi problem - the cure is as above.

Clearing the Right Agnya (Left temple)

Using the Elements:

Look at the Agnya spot/Dot/ Bindi of the photograph of Shri Mataji through a candle flame.

Affirmation:

"Mother, I forgive everyone, including myself"

"Mother, You do everything, I do nothing"

"Mother, by Your grace, please keep me in surrender and may I go beyond all doubts"

General Advice:

  • Left hand towards the photo, right hand on the forehead.

  • Stop all meditative activities involving the Agnya, e.g. concentrating, visualization, hypnosis, clairvoyance, etc.

  • Forget the many wrong conditionings presented by the "Christians" organisations and churches.

  • Do not be futuristic, try to stay in the present.

  • When there is excessive over bloating of the Ego, the Superego becomes squeezed and memory problems can develop

Treatment for the Agnya

Thoughts come and go.  When we fix our attention on the silence between them, we become a receiver (no longer a sender) and this silence grows into thoughtless awareness and then we can receive and feel the vibrations, that are the vital all -pervading energy radiation constantly from the Divine.

  • Recite the Lord's prayer with all your heart.

  • Look at the photo of Shree Mataji through a lit candle. (See Picture)

  • Look at Shree Mataji's Bindi/red dot on Her forehead

  • Forgive everyone, including ourselves

  • Do not allow anyone to touch the Agnya

  • Live in the present, forget the past and don't live in the future, which doesn't exist.

  • Place the palm  of the right hand against the forehead while meditating.

THE HOLY BIBLE

Our Father

Who art in Heaven

Hallowed be Thy name

Thy Kingdom come

Thy will be done

On Earth as it is in Heaven

Give us this day our daily bread

And forgive us our trespasses

As we forgive those who trespass against us

And lead us not into temptation

But deliver us from all evil

For thine is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory

Forever and ever

Amen
